It would be helpfuel to have download categories to group download files together. This way you could bind some files to a product in a single view, it should be possible to link to this view.
I think the real power of a portal should be to have different kind of views against your data, without changing the underlying data structure. This way one could add some files to the upload system and define different views (categories/groups) as one needs it, but behind the scenes it's always the same files. Could also be possible to link one file to more than one category, e.g. for a shared file.
Should look something like this
Category
.net
- controls
- components
- dnn modules
-- DNNPortal-Download
----- File 1
----- File 2
----- File 3
it would be now possible to write an annoucenment or an article and linkt o a single file or a product category, where you can store all files that belongs to a specific topic.
drop me a note if you have any questions about this idea.

I think this is a good idea.

I agree. I currently have about 375 files in 21 categorys in a Gooddogs Repository that has a number of bugs and is driving the users crazy. Search doesnt work in it either.
I am desperate for an alternative, and heard about your module. I would love to switch, but really need category's.
