It seems there are no solution to have it fixed with the download portal :(
Modifying the sources -or-
Is there a way to fix something within the download portal?Eventually, showing the download url for registered/subscriber users? And nothing for other?

I will have a look whether I can take care of that problem.
As you have seen there is a workaround described in the article of Microsoft. I will see whether I can implement a workaround which is based on that information.
Because I'm not really able to reproduce the problem on my servers (test servers) it would be nice if you could help me to test the "new" solution.
If it is OK for you, I would like to contact you after changing the source, so that you can test the module on your installation

Sure, this is not a problem, I can help you testing.
NB : For my tests, I use VMWare that is a copy of my production server, and I can do as many tests I want on it :)
I think you could easilly implement a solution that display or redirect to the url of the files, so you don't have to manage the small chunks to be downloaded.
NB : I have also done a partial translation in French of the download portal, if you want it
